Did you know that you can modify your genetic code? Yes it’s true. Your DNA is not set in stone. You inherited DNA or a genetic code from your biological parents. This genetic code serves as the blueprint for making proteins. These proteins may become part of your physical structure such as nerve cells or may become bioactive compounds such as hormones that circulate throughout the body.
Epigenetics is a division of human science that deals with how the genetic code is expressed. By expression, I mean that certain sequences can be amplified while others are dampened.
Imagine trying to recreate a complex shape from a template. Imagine that certain parts of the template are visible in vibrant colour where others are muted and difficult to see. You can imagine that the shape you create would differ form the original template. This is epigentics.
The human body is in flux. This means it is constantly changing. We are constantly changing in response to our environment. This is essential for longevity. Let’s use another example.
The human body is always in flux. How we accomplish this is through alteration in expression of our DNA. The hard copy is used as the template to make copies. However we can amplify (increase) or dampen (decreased) the expression of certain genes via epigenetics.
